Jolly Good Book & CD!! November 30, 2007 McColey (Buckinghamshire) 31 out of 32 found this review helpful
This is a great way to introduce phonics to your little ones. My daughter wasn't interested in learning her letter sounds so I started building my Jolly Phonics collection. We often sit together listening, reading and singing this and she enjoys it thoroughly. After only a few weeks she has started singing the verses herself while she plays and even asks to put the CD on!
I found it much easier with my 3-year-old in the beginning to put each track on repeat 3 or 4 times to get the tune to 'sink in', and to introduce a few letters at a time.
I was advised to invest in Jolly Phonics by a teacher at my daughter's pre-school because the local schools use the phonics teaching system. I have found it very useful because now I know I can help her at home with the same system so that she does not become confused.
With our progress so far I can highly recommend this series too!
Sing and learn all the phonic sounds August 14, 2007 OrganicGreen (London, United Kingdom) 47 out of 49 found this review helpful
I was not sure how to teach the phonic sounds and also I did not know how to sound each letter etc. When you play the cd you learn the songs with your child & the letter sound. I used this along with the finger phonics books, then later on the phonics poster. We have both learnt the sounds together.
Entertaining and educational November 11, 2008 Dr. R. M. Laws (England) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I'm not a special advocate of 'teaching small children to read' but if they enjoy it you had better use same system they will meet in school later. My 3year and 5 month old loves this CD and book. She puts it on then sits with the book in front of her and reads the phonic sound in advance of each song and sings along with the song. Yes, the songs are short but that actually seems to be what is needed.
There are surprisingly few materials available that use the phonics systen that the children will meet in primary school, but this is one of them. The Mr. Men Alphabet Hunt is also good although the phonetic sounds are slightly different. Beware of CDs that say they use phonics but actually use the letter names (BEE CEE DEE) not the phonetic sound.
A great CD to teach phonics! February 2, 2009 I. Spindler (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Thoroughly recommended. I discovered that the rhymes my daughter was learning at school to learn her phonics was Jollyphonics and as she hadn't yet learnt all of the songs, I thought it would be a good idea to get the CD for her. She loves the songs and there is also a part of the CD at the end with just the letter sounds which I think is brilliant as most people and even some educational tools make letters sound Ba for example for letter 'B' or Da for letter 'D'. This CD shows the right way to pronounce each letter without adding a vowel sound to them.
I give the book to my daughter on the way to school and she looks at it while listening to the CD and really enjoys it.
Excellent for children in foundation learning November 3, 2008 ** (Newport, South Wales) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have two children one is aged 18 months and one aged 4 1/2 and they both love the jolly phonics songs. Other people have posted that they are short but this is the beauty of it. You can play them in the car on repeat and they pick them up so quickly. Also the book that accompanies the CD helps parents to teach children the actions so that they remember the sounds. My son is about to start Jolly Phonics in school and this is the perfect tool for me to be able to aid that learning!!!!
